A gift that really lasts.

Please accept this gift from Seed Sowers. It is a picture of Saint Michael’s Mount, one of the most recognisable sights in Cornwall, and second only to Stonehenge as the most visited historic location in South West England. We hope you will be able to find a place in your home where this gift will make a fine display – a reminder of a past visit, or perhaps an incentive towards a future visit?

On the picture we have printed one of the most well-known verses from the Bible. This verse has been a life-line to many, leading countless sinners to the gift of eternal life through repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus. While Saint Michael’s Mount has, from time to time, functioned as a refuge, withstanding even earthquake and tsunami, inevitably there has also been deterioration and death. History tells of those who once claimed Saint Michael’s Mount as their home but are now no more. This Bible verse, however, tells of a Saviour who is eternal and promises a salvation that will never fail and meets our greatest need.

The greatest need of all.

In His life, Jesus Christ taught us to focus primarily on our eternal destiny. It is an undeniable fact that each one of us will one day leave this life. What then? The One who ‘came down from heaven’1, and proved His deity as the Son of God by His ‘resurrection from the dead’2, taught that we would proceed irreversibly into eternity3. While this is a truth often avoided, or even denied, it will inevitably come.

The problem is that as sinners, we fall ‘short of the glory of God’4 and constantly break God’s law (Ten Commandments). As we must necessarily face our Creator, and His righteous judgment5, to receive the fair and just ‘wages of sin’6, it is evident that we are guilty and deserve to ‘perish’ in ‘the lake of fire’7. Our greatest need, therefore, is for forgiveness of sins and salvation unto life eternal.

The greatest gift ever given.

The good news is that God, in His love, is ‘not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance’8, and to make this possible, He has provided a Saviour by giving His Son. This may be the first time you have heard that God loves YOU, but all through the Bible we read of the magnificent love and deep compassion of the Living God who gives, and gives, and gives again. Consider how much God has given you in this life, all out of His infinite abundance and without asking for anything in return. The gift of ‘His only begotten Son’, however, was a unique gift of immeasurable value and cost. It is the greatest gift ever given.

The greatest love ever seen.

It is in the giving of God’s ‘only begotten Son’, Jesus Christ, that we see the depths of God’s love for ‘the world’. This is real love – sacrificial love – a love that gives up everything for those who are the objects of that love, even if they don’t deserve it. And this is exactly what God has done. Though we are going our ‘own way’, the LORD God ‘has laid on Him, the iniquity of us all’9. But why would God go to such lengths for our salvation? Could He not, in love, simply forgive us?

Remember that God’s righteousness demands a payment for sin, and it was only because the Son of God ‘appeared’, as perfect man, ‘to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself’10, ‘wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities’11, that we could ever be ‘healed’. Consider how ‘Christ died for us’12. It is in this act that God commends to us His love. Indeed, it is the greatest love ever seen, yet there is more to the message of salvation, for it does not end at the cross, nor in the tomb.

The greatest message ever heard.

The God who offers us the reality of ‘everlasting life’ through Jesus Christ, does so on the basis that He has already ‘raised up His Son Jesus’13 and ‘showed Him openly’14, to which the disciples add, ‘whereof we all are witnesses’15. This means that the Lord Jesus Christ is a Living Saviour, ‘alive for evermore’16, and ‘able to save them to the uttermost who come unto God by Him’17. This is a great message.

But it’s made even greater, for this salvation is offered freely to all who will believe in the Lord Jesus. Please note that it is not belief about the Lord Jesus, but belief in. The first is knowing about what Christ has done, and our need of salvation, but knowing about it is of no benefit. You must act on it: repent of your sin, and put your trust in Christ alone, confessing that through His death and resurrection, He is the only source of ‘everlasting life’. If you do, God has promised that ‘whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved’18. We earnestly pray you will.
Then you will know that this is the greatest message ever heard!
