Good News

The good news is that there is a Saviour.  A Saviour who loves me; who is willing and able to save me.

He knows the heights I have attempted to reach, but that’s not why He loves me.  He knows my failures too, and the depths to which I’ve fallen, yet He loves me just the same.  Why?

He loves me because I am His creation, made in His image.  This tells us that the Saviour is the LORD God, my Creator.  My life is of value to Him, not because of what I have or have not achieved, but because I am human.  Yet, I admit my life has not lived up to the standard.  Often I feel that my life has not reached even to my own standard.  How then can I fool myself into thinking I have reached God’s standard?

The Bible makes it clear that I am a part of a flawed and fallen humanity; that I am a sinner by nature and by practice.  Why would God even think twice about me?  Yet His love for me is such that He has provided a way, to not only rescue me from a deservedly righteous judgment but, to redeem me back to Himself; to re-create and perfect me in His own likeness.

So, how do I come into the good of this salvation?

First of all, God did His part, and what an act of grace through the person of Jesus Christ?

But God commendeth His love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. [Roms 5v8]

I must understand that the Christ prophesied of in the Old Testament scriptures, was none other than the Son of God made flesh, eternally equal with the Father, but for a time, now seen in the New Testament, humbling Himself as man, to serve His Father without fault, ‘unto death, even the death of the cross’.

And He did that for me!

The Son of God loved me, and gave Himself for me. [Gal 2:20]

This is a tremendous message, but it gets better, for not only did Christ die for my sins, but ‘He rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures’.

Now as a living Saviour, Jesus Christ, having paid the debt, offers me this wonderful gift of salvation.  And all I have to do is to trust Him – simply accept His offer of mercy to me – an undeserving sinner.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. [Acts 16:31]
