Queen of the South

This is not a reference to the famous Queen of Sheba who came from afar to hear the wisdom of Solomon, but to the town of Dumfries. Brother Craig MacKie has been labouring in this town for sometime, and had an exercise to cover the town with Seed Sower texts as a way of reaching it prior to Gospel meetings he had planned with Jonathan Black.

Jim McMaster took the lead in organising a weekend distribution event alongside Craig. Hotel accommodation was found, texts and maps printed, and with the closest assembly being the small company in Castle Douglas, the call went out ‘Come over and help us’. A good group travelled, mid-April, from afar to the Queen of South: from Northern Ireland, the Midlands, and even from Dorset.

Again, Joel Hawthorne and his wife joined the group for the weekend, with Joel responsible for the ministry. We are thankful to the Lord for His hand in travel as always, though often we take this for granted. On this occasion, David’s car just about made it up, but a part was able to be purchased and the car fixed over the weekend in time for his return journey to Coventry.

Over the course of the weekend, and subsequent week, as Jonathan and Craig finished off some of the distribution, over 12,000 John 3:16 texts were distributed. On the Saturday, Dumfries was the location for distribution, but on the Lord’s Day, after joining the believers at Castle Douglas for the Breaking of Bread, distribution was carried out in that smaller town. 28 Bibles had been requested by the start of May (when Craig delivered a further Bible in August, he was encouraged to see the Seed Sower text on the wall) from both locations – 22 from Dumfries, 6 from Castle Douglas.

The meetings went on for 13 nights following the distribution, and Craig and Jonathan were encouraged to see 13 unbelievers come in. May the Lord bless His Word. There are areas of Dumfries to the north that were not covered in this distribution, so a further distribution will likely happen next year.
